Sacred Valley of the Incas and Machu Picchu 2 days

culture | Tag: , ,

Intro:

The Sacred Valley of the Incas was undoubtedly a key area of settlement to the Incas. Its agreeable climate and fertile plains make a rare and fruitful combination for the high Andes. It was also the route to the jungle and therefore an area with access to the fruits and plants of the tropical lowlands.  The Sacred Valley served as a buffer zone, protecting Cusco from incursions of the Antis, the fierce jungle tribes who from time to time raided the highlands. Today the Sacred Valley remains a lush agricultural region supplying the city of Cusco with much of its produce such as maize, fruit and vegetables.

Machu Picchu (2,430 meters above sea-level) stands in the middle of a tropical mountain forest, in an extraordinarily beautiful setting. It was probably the most amazing urban creation of the Inca Empire at its height, its giant walls, terraces and ramps seem as if they have been cut naturally in the continuous rock escarpments. The natural setting, on the eastern slopes of the Andres, encompasses the upper Amazon basin with its rich diversity of flora and fauna.

Highlights:

You will be able to see the most important Inca Archeological Sites and have enough time to take pictures and enjoy the view. Machu Picchu is the most famous archeological site because it is one of the seven modern world wonders and you will be able to walk this site.
